After settling for a solid spot in the middle of the truck segment for years, the 2019 Chevy Silverado in Central Oregon is now gunning for the top spot with modern engineering and all-new technology. Standing in its way is the 2019 Ford-F150, America's best-selling truck for 42 straight years. The Ford F-150 never stops evolving, and the 2019 model is its finest version yet!

Does the 2019 Chevy Silverado have what it takes to topple the king of all trucks?

Safety Comparison

In the past, safety wasn't a strong point of the Chevy Silverado. Its latest model, however, has received a significant safety boost. Its new Safety Package offers excellent features such as blind spot monitoring, rear park assist, and rear cross traffic alert.  The catch is these safety features are only available on the most expensive trims including the High Country. If you want a safe truck that doesn't cost a fortune, the 2019 Chevy Silverado might be out of your reach.

The Ford F-150 immediately gains the upper hand with a perfect five-star score from the NHTSA and excellent results from the IIHS (the Chevy Silverado hasn't been tested yet). There are many safety features on the 2019 Ford F-150 such as active lane control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warnings, and blind spot monitors.

There is another important safety feature missing from the 2019 Chevy Silverado: inflatable rear seatbelts. Optional on the 2019 Ford F-150, these special seatbelts can help prevent internal and spinal injuries in the event of a crash. If it's safety you're looking for, the 2019 Ford F-150 easily beats the 2019 Chevy Silverado.

Passenger Space Comparison

The 2019 Chevy Silverado may be new, but its conservative interiors continue to look dated. On the plus side, it does have smart storage spaces, a crisp 8-inch touchscreen, and a pleasantly quiet cabin. Unfortunately, low-quality materials are used in the cabin such as low-grade chrome finishes and black plastic, as well as a lack of a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

The high-end Limited and King Ranch trims completely dominate even top-of-the-line Chevy Silverado trucks. This truck is luxury at its finest, with heating, cooling, and massaging leather seats. Also included are an outstanding Bang & Olufsen sound system and a beautiful moonroof. Technology is everywhere with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, 3-prong power outlets, and the widely-praised SYNC 3 infotainment system with Alexa, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capabilities with useful features such as reading your text messages aloud.

Reliability Comparison

Automotive experts consistently rank Ford higher than Chevrolet for reliability. Ford placed 5th in J.D. Powers' 2018 Initial Quality Study, while Chevrolet earned 6th. Consumer Reports ranked Chevy three places lower than Ford in its 2018 Auto Issue.

You also get a better deal on corrosion warranty with the Ford F-150: it offers an unlimited corrosion warranty versus a mere 100,000 miles on the Chevy Silverado.

Engine Comparison

The most powerful engine on the 2019 Ford F-150 hits 450 horsepower, while the 2019 Chevy Silverado only hits 420 horsepower. In terms of towing, the 2019 Ford F-150 sets another best-in-class record at 12,300 - besting the 12,200-pound capability of the Chevy Silverado.

For better grip on the pavement, the tires on the Ford F-150 Raptors are much bigger compared to even the largest tires on the Chevy Silverado. The Ford-F-150 also offers more efficient fuel economy, greater stopping power, and more off-road capabilities.

The 2019 Ford F-150 is Still Unshakeable in First Place

The 2019 Chevy Silverado in Central Oregon remains leagues behind the 2019 Ford F-150. In 2018, the Chevy Silverado was outsold by a whopping 55% by the Ford F-Series.
