Rear inflatable seatbelts can significantly prevent internal and spinal injuries. Unfortunately, this lifesaving feature is not available on the GMC Sierra 1500.

The Ford F-150 continues its history of outstanding safety with a five-star rating from the NHTSA. In 2017, the Ford F-150 was one of only 139 vehicles to achieve the rare "Top Pick" award from the IIHS for its exceptional performance on rear impact, front impact, side impact, and roof crush tests. The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 has still not been crash tested.

In addition to a better initial build, the Ford F-150 also proved more dependable than GMC in the long run. J.D. Power conducted a 2018 survey among owners of vehicles three years and older. Ford was ranked 16th in reliability and GMC is still behind at 18th. Industry expert Consumer Reports also ranked GMC 11 places lower than Ford in terms of reliability.

One example of Ford's outstanding reliability is its "Limp Home" system. Should your engine ever lose coolant, it will begin running only half of its cylinders so you can drive to the nearest service station without getting stranded. This dependable mechanism is not offered on the GMC Sierra 1500.
