The 2019 GMC Sierra in Central Oregon is a full-size pickup that is a giant in terms of capability. Its latest edition is making a big impact on the market, however, its great rival, the 2019 Ford F-150, is rising up to the challenge with improved engines and capabilities.  With its reputation for toughness throughout the years, will the Ford F-150 successfully dethrone the GMC Sierra?

Safety Comparison

Even with the heft of full-size pickups, both vehicles' commitment to safety is second to none. They were both subjected to testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2018 GMC Sierra - which has many similarities to the latest model - was used in the testing. According to the reports, the GMC Sierra had a decent crashworthiness score, but failed in crash avoidance and usability of child seat anchors (LATCH). In contrast, the 2019 Ford F-150 registered superior in crash prevention and had a more user-friendly LATCH, on top of its high crashworthiness score.

The Ford F-150's driver assist technologies have drastically improved, giving renewed confidence to drivers. The Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go enables a safe cruising speed. Pre-Collision Assist also helps drivers avoid sudden encounters with pedestrians through fully responsive automatic brakes. Finally, the Lane Keeping System is more accurate than ever and can tell you if you are dozing off and may need a coffee break.

Passenger Space Comparison

The past few years have pushed massive improvements to the interiors of large pickup trucks. The 2019 GMC Sierra and the 2019 Ford F-150 benefitted from better-constructed cabins and new infotainment systems. The GMC Sierra boasts of well-designed seats, as well as sound-absorbent dash and carpet. However, the attractiveness of the interior materials pales in comparison to competing brands.

The Ford F-150 holds an advantage because of its spacious interiors. It also comes with the highly intuitive SYNC3 infotainment system. By using the Ford + Alexa app, you can connect your Alexa device at home to the car and ask questions while on the go. You can also use Waze via the SYNC 3 Applink and share information with fellow motorists on getting the best routes in town.  Compared to Ford's SYNC 3, GMC's Infotainment 3 System is still limited in scope on apps, making the Ford pickup the winner in this category as well.

Reliability Comparison

The overall reliability of a pickup truck is highly determined by its ability to carry loads. The 2019 GMC Sierra has a high-strength roll-formed steel bed, which is especially useful when it comes to hauling heavy loads. It also includes a six-function MultiPro tailgate, which has a fold out step for better access to the bed. The bed's maximum volume, however, is only 71.70 cubic feet, which is less than Ford's max cargo volume of 77.4 cubic feet.

The Ford F-150's body is constructed out of lightweight and high strength military grade aluminum alloy. With its reduced weight, more payload is added, making the payload of the Ford F-150 the best in its class.

The Ford F-150 is also more reliable when it comes to loads. The truck leads the category for both hauling and towing capabilities. Its 13,200 lb maximum transporting capability outshines the GMC Sierra's 12,200 lbs.  The Ford F-150 is also complete with available towing features like the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Factory-installed trailer brake controller, and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with trailer coverage.

Engine Comparison

A large pickup deserves the most fully capable engines of each car brand. Both the 2019 GMC Sierra and the 2019 Ford F-150 have six available powertrains. When it comes to horsepower, the Ford F-150 engines are superior with a range up to 450 hp, while the GMC Sierra only goes up to 420 hp.

Another advantage of the Ford F-150 is its 10-speed automatic transmission. This transmission allows for the superb enhanced acceleration of the vehicle. You can also set driving modes with this transmission, including Normal, Tow-Haul, Snow-Wet, EcoSelect, and Sport.

The Ford F-150: King of Pickups

The 2019 GMC Sierra in Central Oregon is, without a doubt, a versatile full-size pickup truck. However, the Ford F-150 is the superior performer because of its higher dependability rating and better safety features. Click for more information on the Ford F-150.
