Before long, the 2020 Chevy Equinox in Madras OR will be in driveways across the country. However, we encourage you to check out the 2020 Ford Escape before putting the Equinox in your driveway. Both the Equinox and the Escape will get you from point A to point B, but one of the two offers far superior features and options. We've done all the research, so you don't have to.

For starters, the 2020 Ford Escape has more space than the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. Not only does the Escape have more cargo space than the Equinox, but it has more front and rear head- and leg room as well. Taller drivers are sure to appreciate this additional space! Though the Escape has more interior space, the Equinox is slightly longer. This shows Ford has been more intentional with the design of the Escape than Chevy has been with the Equinox.

You might expect the 2020 Chevy Equinox in Madras OR to be more powerful than the 2020 Ford Escape because of its slightly larger size, but this assumption is incorrect. Both SUVs share a maximum tow rating of 3,500 pounds, making both vehicles strong haulers. The Equinox beats the Escape by a hare in horsepower, but Ford makes up for that by offering 15 pound-feet of torque more than the Chevy.

In addition to towing capacity, the new Equinox and Escape boast similar engines. The Ford Escape's most powerful engine is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder, but a 1.5-liter engine is available as well and is standard on most trims. An interesting note about this engine is it runs on three cylinders instead of four and even has the ability to use only two of the three. This helps dramatically when it comes to fuel economy.

Electric Option

An all-electric option of the Ford Escape will likely be available for the 2020 model year. This model is projected to run 30 miles on a single charge. The availability of not only a hybrid, but a plug-in hybrid is a great move on Ford's part. The Chevy Equinox does not offer a similar option.

Standard in-vehicle Wi-Fi is included on even the base trim level of the 2020 Ford Escape in Madras OR. Upgrading to the SE trim level for Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 8-inch touchscreen. A few other features available include a head-up display, wireless charging, a 10-speaker Band & Olufsen audio system, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

The Escape also boasts several standard driver-assistance features. Some of these features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams.

In contrast, the 2020 Chevy Equinox in Madras OR comes standard with essentially no advanced driver-assistance or technology features.

Detailed pricing has not yet been released for the 2020 Ford Escape; however, we expect similar prices to the 2019 model year, which will keep the Escape in line with its competition. Starting cost for the 2020 Escape is slightly higher than the Chevy, but once features and destination fees are added the Escape ultimately comes out less expensive.

Things to Note

The 2020 Ford Escape marks the start of the SUV's fourth generation.  Ford has sold over 4.5 million units since the first edition in 2001 and over 272,000 in 2018 alone, making the Escape Ford's second strongest-selling product behind the F-Series pickups.

This year, the Chevy Equinox begins its third generation - originally introduced in 2018.  The SUV no longer offers a diesel engine and the 2020 model is already known for its poor interior quality.

With this information, choosing between the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox and the 2020 Ford Escape should be easy as pie. For more information on why you should choose the Ford Escape, visit us at TS&S Ford in Madras OR.
